Documents
Upload SOPs, playbooks, brand guidelines and price lists so agents follow your rules, not generic ones.
Documents are the written rules of your business: how you name campaigns, when you scale, what you never discount, who approves what. Upload them and agents read them as context, cite them in recommendations and follow them when they propose changes.
Documents live in Data Hub › Assets under the Documents filter. Each workspace has its own.
| How it connects | Upload |
| Reads | Uploaded files, Files from Slack and Gmail |
| Can change | Create or replace a document from an agent's output (for example a weekly summary); Delete a document |
| Refresh | On your plan's schedule, plus Resync anytime |
Before you start#
- Files as PDF, DOCX, Markdown, TXT, CSV or XLSX, up to 50 MB each.
- One topic per document works best; agents cite the section they used.
Connect#
1. Upload documents#
- Open Assets
In the sidebar, select Data Hub › Assets.
- Upload
Select Upload (or Upload files when the workspace is empty) and choose the files. They appear under Documents.
- Check they're indexed
Each file shows Indexed once agents can read it. Large PDFs take a minute.
What syncs#
| Documents | In Meerkats |
|---|---|
| Uploaded files | Text extracted and indexed per workspace; tables in CSV and XLSX become queryable |
| Files from Slack and Gmail | Files shared in chosen channels or labels land here too, if you allow it on those connections |
Raw data lands in Data Hub › Bronze Layer. Modelled tables, with metrics defined once, are in Data Hub › Gold Layer. Every number in a report or an agent’s answer comes from a query on these tables, never from the model’s own arithmetic.
How often it syncs#
Meerkats syncs on your plan's schedule: daily on Free, hourly on the $49 plan, every 30 minutes on $149 and every 15 minutes on $399. You can run a sync at any time with Resync in Data Hub › Bronze Layer.
- Replacing a file re-indexes it. Agents use the newest version from the next run.
What Meerkats can change#
In every connected tool, Meerkats can create, read, update and delete records, within the permissions you grant and the permissions the tool allows. These are the changes it proposes for Documents, and the limit that applies to each.
| Change | Limit |
|---|---|
| Create or replace a document from an agent's output (for example a weekly summary) | Low risk: runs on its own once allowed |
| Delete a document | Only a person can delete |
How every change is governed
Every change starts as a proposal in your Inbox. Nothing changes in the connected tool until a person approves it, unless you set that rule to act on its own.
Before it runs an approved change, Meerkats re-reads the live value. If the value moved since the proposal, it asks again instead of acting on stale data.
Meerkats stores the value it replaced, so every change can be undone from Agents run history.
Anything Meerkats creates starts paused. Switching it on is a second, separate approval.
Example automations#
Type any of these on the New automation page (Automation Agents › + New Agent).
- “Use our campaign naming SOP when proposing new campaigns”
- “Check the price list before flagging a listing as underpriced”
Troubleshooting#
A scanned PDF has no text
Meerkats runs OCR on image-only PDFs, but handwriting and low-resolution scans don't index well. Export the original as a text PDF if you can.
Agents aren't using a document
Ask in the chat: "Which documents did you use?" Agents cite what they read. If the document is missing, check it shows Indexed in Assets.
